Purpose: This line disseminates information about and provides support for the Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Act (ASHAA), the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), and the Residential Lead-Based Paint Hazard Act of 1992. This Hotline is managed by the office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT).

Purpose: Energy Star is the symbol for energy efficiency. It's a label -- created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy -- to help consumers save money and prevent air pollution. An appliance or product with the Energy Star label means that it's in the top of its class for energy efficiency.

Environmental Justice Hotline

Purpose: To serve as the point of contact for environmental justice outreach and educational activities. Provides technical and financial assistance and disseminates environmental justice information.

Purpose: The hazardous waste programs managed by OSWAR are some of the most complex developed by EPA. The Ombudsman Program, located principally within the Headquarters office, handles complaints from citizens and the regulated community, obtains facts, sorts information, substantiates policy, and engages in dispute resolution, shuttle diplomacy functions, and formal investigations.

Purpose: To Serve as a central, public access point for information that will help people identify, resolve, and prevent indoor air quality problems in buildings that include homes, offices, and schools.

Purpose: The border XXI program is a binational, interagency program aimed at protecting and improving the environment and environmental health while fostering sustainable development in the U.S.-Mexico border area.

National Lead Information Center Hotline

Purpose: The National Lead Information Center Hotline and Clearinghouse provide the general public and professionals with information about lead poisoning and prevention. The LEADFYI Hotline is available 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week, in English and Spanish. It distributes a basic information packet on lead and a list of state and local contacts for additional information. Callers who have more specific questions are referred to the Clearinghouse (800-424-LEAD) and can speak directly with an information specialist. Information specialists provide on-phone technical assistance to a variety of constituencies, including the general public, government agencies, industry, health care providers, and abatement professionals.

National Pesticide Telecommunications Network (NPTN)

Purpose: The Notional Pesticide Telecommunications Network (NPTN) hotline offers information pertaining to a wide variety of pesticide-related subjects, including: pesticide information; toxicology; environmental chemistry; referrals for laboratories for analyses, investigation of pesticide incidents, and emergency treatment information safety information; health and environmental effects; and clean-up and disposal procedures.

National Response Center Hotline

Purpose: The National Response Center or NRC is the federal government's national communications center, which is staffed 24 Hours a day by U.S. Coast Guard officers and marine science technicians. The NRC receives all reports of releases involving hazardous substances and oil that trigger the federal notification requirements under several laws. The NRC maintains reports of all releases and spills in a national database called the Emergency Response Notification System.

National Service Center for Environmental Publications (NSCEP, formerly NCEPI)

Purpose: The National Service Center for Environmental Publications (NSCEP) was created by the EPA as the Agency's central repository and distribution center for EPA publications. NSCEP produces the Annual EPA National Publications Catalog and maintains an in-house inventory of 5,000 current EPA publications available to the public free of charge. Over 420,000 documents are distributed to a transnational audience on a monthly basis.

Purpose: The Pollution Prevention Information Clearinghouse (PPIC) is dedicated to reducing or eliminating industrial pollutants through technology transfer, education, and public awareness.

Stratospheric Ozone Information Hotline

Purpose: The Stratospheric Ozone Information Hotline offers consultation on ozone protection regulations and requirements under Title VI of the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) of 1990. Title VI covers the following key aspects of the production, use, and safe disposal of the ozone-depleting chemicals: 1) production phaseout and controls; 2) servicing of motor vehicle air conditioners; 3) recycling and emission reduction; 4) technician and equipment certification; 5) approval of alternatives; 6) a ban of nonessential uses; 7) product labeling; and 8) federal procurement. The hotline maintains a library of relevant policy and science documents, reports, articles, and contact lists.

Purpose: STORET (short for STOrage and RETrieval) is a repository for water quality, biological, and physical data and is used by state environmental agencies, EPA and other federal agencies, universities, private citizens, and many others.

Purpose: This hotline provides information about the regulations and programs implemented in the following environmental statutes: - Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) -- federal procurement of products that contain recycled material; hazardous waste generators and transporters; land disposal restrictions; municipal solid waste landfill criteria; solid and hazardous waste recycling; treatment, storage and disposal facilities; waste minimization and hazardous waste combustion; underground storage tanks. - Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA, or Superfund) -- applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARARs); the National Contingency Plan (NPL); radiation site cleanup regulations; reportable quantities for hazardous substances. - Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)/Superfund Amendments Reauthorization Act (SARA) -- emergency planning; hazardous chemical inventory reporting; public access to chemical information; toxic chemical release reporting and the Form R; the toxic release inventory (TRI) database.

Purpose: The hotline is intended to assist Public Water System, State and local officials, and members of the public with information on EPA regulations and programs authorized by the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1986 and 1996.
