EPA published an Enforceable Consent Agreement (ECA) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)between EPA and five manufacturers of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (also called D4).  D4 is used industrially as an intermediate, solvent, finishing agent, adhesive and sealant. It is also used for both consumer and commercial purposes in paints, coatings, plastics, and rubber products. It is contained in consumer products such as polishes, soaps, detergents, adhesives, and sealants.  EPA will require monitoring for the chemical’s presence in the environment. This information will help EPA better understand the potential environmental effects associated with this chemical.
